Agartala, 8th October 2025 : Panic and shock gripped the residents of Dhanbilash Gram Panchayat under Kailashahar subdivision on Wednesday afternoon after the body of an elderly man was recovered from the waters of Bilascherra.
According to family members, the deceased, identified as Bindu Madhab Sinha (65), had been mentally unstable for several years. Police recovered the body and sent it to Unakoti District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Biswaraj Sinha, a resident of Ward No. 1 under Dhanbilash Gram Panchayat and nephew of the deceased, said that his uncle had been missing since Lakshmi Puja.
“We thought he had gone to visit a relative in the nearby Dollugao area. But on Wednesday, villagers noticed a body floating in the Bilascherra. When we reached the spot, we identified it as my uncle,” he said.
Hej further stated that Bindu Madhab Sinha could not swim and had a fractured right arm. He also mentioned that his uncle was unmarried and had a habit of breaking and rebuilding his own house frequently.
Family sources revealed that Sinha had once been taken to a mental hospital for treatment but had left without informing anyone.
Police officer Kinkor Pal from Kailashahar Police Station said, “Upon receiving the information, we rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for autopsy. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report.”
The incident has caused deep concern and sadness among local residents.
