Elderly Mother Alleges Abuse by Son in Amtali, Seeks Protection and Justice

Date:

Agartala, 14th June 2026:  A deeply distressing incident has come to light from the Netaji Subhas Colony area near the Sub-Centre in Sekerkote under Amtali Police Station, where a 70-year-old woman has accused her younger son of physically and mentally abusing her.

The complainant, Ranubala Sarkar, said that after the death of her husband, Bishwanath Sarkar, nearly eight years ago, she hoped to spend her later years peacefully with her two sons, daughter, and grandchildren. According to her, that dream has been shattered by the alleged actions of her younger son, Bachchu Sarkar, an auto-rickshaw driver.

Ranubala alleged that Bachchu has been subjecting her to physical and mental harassment for a long time. She further claimed that he regularly takes ₹2,000 from her every month and often fails to provide her with adequate food.

According to the elderly woman, the latest incident occurred on Saturday when her son allegedly attacked her with a chair, causing injuries. Fearing for her safety and life, she approached Amtali Police Station and lodged a written complaint against him.

However, Ranubala claimed that despite filing the complaint, police had not yet visited the spot or taken action against the accused as of the time of her statement.

On Sunday morning, while on her way to a hospital for medical treatment, the elderly woman broke down in tears while speaking to reporters and appealed for help, saying, “I want to live. Please save me.” Her emotional plea moved many who witnessed the interaction.

The incident has sparked concern and discussion among local residents. Many have urged the police administration and the State Women’s Commission to conduct a fair investigation and take prompt legal action against the accused if the allegations are found to be true.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter. The focus now remains on the police investigation and whether the elderly woman will receive the protection and justice she is seeking.
