Elderly Widow Alleges Physical, Mental Torture by Son and Daughter-in-Law in Agartala

Agartala, 2nd September 2026 : An elderly widow has approached Amtali Police Station seeking justice, alleging that she has been subjected to prolonged physical and mental harassment by her son and daughter-in-law.

The incident was reported from the Dakshin Badharghat Charipara area, near Navodiganta Club, under Amtali police station.

The woman, identified as Lakshmi Rani Sarkar, claimed that she has been facing physical and mental abuse from her son, Sajal Sarkar, and daughter-in-law, Mousumi Das Sarkar, for several years.

According to the complaint, Lakshmi Rani’s husband, Khokon Sarkar, died around 10 years ago. She alleged that the harassment began after her son got married and has continued since then.

She further alleged that on Tuesday, the couple again assaulted her physically. She claimed that she was beaten with a stick and dragged by her hair during the incident. She also alleged that she was subsequently forced out of her home.

Following the incident, Lakshmi Rani reached Amtali Police Station in a distressed condition and sought police intervention and justice.She has urged the police to investigate the allegations and take appropriate legal action against those responsible.
