Agartala, 9th May 2024: An electricity worker named Liton Rudra Pal lost his life due to what family members describe as the irresponsible behavior of his colleagues at Maicherra. Employed by the Power department at Belonia, Liton was reportedly working on an electricity pole when the tragedy struck on Wednesday.
According to eyewitness accounts, Liton was electrocuted after his co-workers, identified as Laxman and Asim, prematurely restored the power supply while he was still on the pole. Despite being rushed to South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar immediately following the accident, and later referred to Agartala GB Hospital, Liton succumbed to his injuries.
The bereaved family has received a financial contribution of 10,000 rupees from the power department’s staff, who have acknowledged their role in the incident. However, the family claims that no formal investigation has been initiated by TSECL, the state electricity corporation.
Liton, a resident of the Betaga area in the Santirbazar subdivision, leaves behind a community in mourning. Local residents are calling on the government to extend support to the family of the deceased, emphasizing the need for accountability and safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
