Agartala, September 15: Engineers in Dharmanagar marked the 56th Engineers Day with a day-long celebration at the Dharmanagar Works Department complex, paying tribute to Sir M. Visvesvaraya on his 162nd birthday. This annual observance, dedicated to celebrating engineers and their pivotal role in shaping our nation, holds special significance in the state.

The tradition of celebrating Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s birthday as Engineers Day began in 1968 with the formation of the State Engineers Association. Since then, engineers across the state have commemorated this day, recognizing the vital contributions of engineers to the progress and development of both the state and the nation.

During the event, engineers emphasized their role as essential contributors to the development and welfare of society. They underlined that engineers serve as partners to the government in enhancing the quality of life for the people. Acknowledging that progress and development are unattainable without engineers, they stressed their commitment to employing advanced technology and working tirelessly to fulfill their responsibilities.

The celebration also featured a segment dedicated to honoring outstanding secondary and higher secondary students pursuing engineering, with recognition and encouragement for their academic excellence.

In a spirit of philanthropy, engineers extended their support to various charitable causes. Orphans at an orphanage in Ramnagar, part of the Panisagar sub-division, received sports equipment and study materials, contributing to their holistic development. Additionally, a gurukula ashram in Panisagar sub-division, supported primarily by donations, was provided with one month’s ration for 45 female students.

Engineers demonstrated their commitment to social welfare by delivering high-quality filters to a girls’ orphanage operated by Sanghdeep at Dewan Pasa in Dharmanagar. Furthermore, they offered food items and advanced filters to elderly residents at a marginal old age home, emphasizing their ongoing involvement in various development-oriented initiatives for the betterment of the community.

The State Engineers Association affirmed their dedication to working on numerous development-focused projects each year, further underscoring their commitment to enhancing the well-being of the people they serve. Engineers Day served as a moment to reflect on their achievements and their ongoing pursuit of excellence in engineering, technology, and social responsibility.
