Agartala, 26th June 2024 :   The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs along with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has commenced the subsidized purchase of paddy at the Binodini School grounds in Bamutia. The initiative was inaugurated today by former MLA and social worker Krishnadhan Das.

In his address, Das highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts to develop agriculture and support farmers. He noted that prior to 2018, the state government did not purchase paddy from local farmers. However, with the establishment of the current administration, biannual paddy purchases have become a standard practice. This move aims to make farmers self-reliant, supported by various governmental programs.

This year, paddy is being bought at a rate of Rs 21.83 per kilogram with plans to increase the rate to Rs 23 per kilogram in the future. Das emphasized the government’s commitment to agricultural development and urged farmers to cooperate with the ongoing initiatives.

The event was attended by Bamutia Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sheila Das Sen, West Tripura District Deputy Director of Agriculture Ranjit Kumar Das, Mohanpur SDM Tridip Sarkar, Bamutia Agriculture Supervisor Raju Ravidas, Taltala Panchayat Pradhan Niyati Datta and several other dignitaries.

Entrepreneurs have projected that around 300 metric tons of rice will be produced through this initiative. Over the next three days, a significant number of farmers are expected to gather at the Binodini School grounds to sell their paddy. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture will be distributing agricultural machinery to the farmers to further support their efforts.
