Agartala, 7th  February 2026 :  Former union minister of state Pratima Bhoumik inaugurated the district-level folk culture festival at Dhanpur Tehsil ground in Sepahijala district, emphasizing the importance of reviving and celebrating local traditions.

Reflecting on the cultural atmosphere before 2018, she noted that the state was once dominated by protest songs such as “We Shall Overcome”, but the shift in recent years has allowed folk traditions to flourish. “We have overcome that phase and gained the opportunity to highlight our own folk heritage,” she said.

The event was organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Kathalia Panchayat Samiti and other local bodies. Among those present were MLA Bindu Debnath, award-winning folk artist Surya Kumar Debbarma, and Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Saha-Sabhadhipati Pintu Aich.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Bindu Debnath stressed the need to preserve and promote indigenous art forms. He remarked that many cultural practices had diminished during the previous administration, but the state government is now working to ensure such traditions are sustained through regular festivals and programs.

Following the inaugural session, folk artists from across the district captivated audiences with diverse performances, showcasing the richness of Tripura’s cultural heritage.
