Agartala, 7th  February 2026 :   A tragic road accident claimed the life of a four-year-old child in Kanchanpur on Saturday morning, sending shockwaves of grief across the locality. The deceased has been identified as James Tripura.

According to local sources, the accident occurred following a head-on collision between a tipper truck and an e-rickshaw. The impact was so severe that the e-rickshaw overturned, and the child was crushed under the wheels of the tipper, resulting in his instant death at the spot.

At least five persons, including the child’s mother, sustained serious injuries in the mishap. The injured were rushed to the Kanchanpur Primary Health Centre, where initial treatment was administered. However, as the condition of three victims worsened, they were later referred to North Tripura District Hospital at Dharmanagar for advanced medical care.

The incident cast a pall of gloom over the area, with the bereaved family and relatives plunged into deep sorrow. Local residents have alleged that reckless movement of heavy vehicles in the region has been leading to frequent road accidents and demanded stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

Meanwhile, the police reached the spot soon after the incident, seized both vehicles involved, and have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
