Agartala, May 10, 2023: Administrative officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department and Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) conducted a raid at a shop named ‘Ramthakur Varieties’ at Chandrapur here on Wednesday.
During the raid, the officials recovered bulk quantity of various products which are expired and the shop owner is selling those products to the consumers.
Speaking to media personnel here, DCM Ranjit Kumar Das said that this raiding by the department officials along with administrative staff of the Sadar SDM is a daily routine.
“However, after assuming charge of the department, new minister directed us to conduct such raids and find out whether there is any irregularities happening across the state. Minister also instructed us to minimize the difference of rates from the manufacturer and wholesale rate in different markets and shops, and expired products shouldn’t be sold in any way”, he said.
Accordingly, Sub-Divisional Controller of Food department Pradip Bhowmik, Chief Inspector of Food Debajyoti Chakraborty and DCM Ranjit Kumar Das conducted a raid at Ramthakur Varieties in Chandrapur here on the directions of the Sadar SDM Arup Kumar Das.
“For the past two months, we have staging such raids, but this expired products availability in this shop had surprised us. Mustard Oil, Chips, and other various items which went expired are being sold to the customers. This had surprised us greatly. We will report this negligence to the higher authorities and necessary action will be initiated”, he added.
