Eye OPD closure sparks outrage at Panisagar Hospital

Date:

Agartala, 29th July 2026 :    Healthcare services at Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital have once again come under sharp criticism from the public after the eye outpatient department (OPD) remained closed on Monday, leaving scores of patients—many of whom had travelled long distances—without treatment.

Hospital sources revealed that optometrist Malabika Singh was occupied in a meeting, which led to the suspension of OPD services for the day. Local residents allege that the eye OPD, which operates only twice a week, is frequently disrupted due to meetings or other reasons. Patients expressed frustration, stating that prior notice of closure could have spared them unnecessary hardship.

Residents further complained that the hospital’s problems extend beyond the eye department. Chronic shortages of doctors, irregular services, and inadequate infrastructure have severely weakened the healthcare system in Panisagar. The aggrieved public and local community leaders have demanded immediate intervention from the health department. They have urged authorities to appoint sufficient doctors and staff, ensure regular OPD operations, and restore patient-friendly healthcare services without delay.
