Agartala, 13th June 2026: Agartala witnessed a dramatic case of fraud when two men posing as saints duped a local youth, only to be later handed over to the police by the victim himself.
It is reported that the incident took place when Shubhojit Roy Choudhury, a resident of the city, was approached by two individuals dressed as holy men. The duo, claiming to be from Uttar Pradesh, asked him for Rs 100 to buy food. Out of compassion, Shubhojit gave them the money, and in return, they handed him a talisman.
Soon after, the so-called saints asked Shubhojit how much money he had in his wallet. Trusting them, he showed his cash, which the fraudsters cleverly snatched away. Realizing he had been cheated, Shubhojit immediately began searching for the culprits across different parts of Agartala.
Eventually, he spotted them near Rabindra Bhavan and managed to detain them. He then alerted the police, and officers from West Agartala Police Station arrived at the scene to take the accused into custody.
Police sources revealed that the two men carried Aadhaar cards listing addresses from Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. Investigations are now underway to verify the authenticity of their identities and the extent of their fraudulent activities.
