Simna BJP leader held with pistol, ammunition and cannabis; Produced before court

Agartala, 13th June 2026:   In a major crackdown on illegal arms and narcotics, police arrested a BJP leader from Simna along with a pistol, ammunition and a large quantity of cannabis during a joint operation conducted in the Mohanpur subdivision.

Acting on a specific tip-off, a joint team comprising personnel from the police, Special Task Force (STF), CRPF and BSF conducted a raid at a house in the Montala area under Sidhai Police Station. During the search, the team recovered one pistol, 15 rounds of live ammunition and 41 packets of dried cannabis.

The accused, identified as Uttam Deb, a BJP leader from Simna, was taken into custody on charges related to illegal possession of arms and narcotics. Police sources also described him as an alleged drug trafficker.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ashish Dasgupta. Following his arrest, Deb was produced before the Mohanpur court on Saturday.

Police have initiated further investigation to ascertain the source of the seized arms and cannabis and to determine whether others are linked to the alleged trafficking network.
