Agartala, 13th September 2024: A small farmer’s house was completely gutted by fire last night in Jagai Bari ADC Village under Jampuijala RD Block. The unfortunate event has left Rankumar Debbarma (50) and his wife Buddha Lakshmi Debbarma, both small farmers utterly devastated.
The couple, who had gone to visit their son’s home in the Amtali area, received the shocking news late at night that their house was ablaze. “We were at our son’s place when we got the call. We rushed back, but it was too late,” said Rankumar, his voice trembling with emotion.
Despite the villagers’ united efforts to extinguish the flames, their attempts were in vain. The fire department was alerted, but by the time the fire brigade arrived, the house was already engulfed in flames. “We tried everything we could, but the fire was too fierce,” said a local resident.
Upon returning to their home, the couple was met with a scene of utter devastation. “Everything we had was gone. Our living room was filled with balls of rice and bags of paddy, all turned to ashes,” Buddha Lakshmi recounted tearfully. The couple had stored their entire year’s supply of paddy and rice at home, along with household bedding and other valuables, all of which were consumed by the fire.
The initial assessment by the fire brigade and the couple suggests that the fire may have started due to an electrical circuit malfunction. “This fire has left us completely helpless. We don’t know what we will eat for the rest of the year,” said Rankumar, his eyes filled with despair.
The villagers of Jagai Bari are deeply sympathetic towards the couple’s plight. “How much can a thief take? But when Brahma Dev gets greedy, he takes everything and leaves you destitute,” remarked one villager, reflecting the community’s sorrow and helplessness.
This tragic incident has left the farmer couple and the entire village in a state of shock and mourning.
