Agartala, 13th September 2024: AICC Secretary and in-charge of Pradesh Congress Christopher Tilak accused the ruling BJP of deceiving the public with the concept of a “double engine government.” He claimed, “People are being fooled by the talk of double engine government.”
Tilak, who has been in Tripura for the past two days was joined by Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha, who announced a significant protest. “We will surround the office of the state Director General of Police on September 23,” Saha declared, emphasizing the party’s dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of state affairs.
Highlighting the pressing issues in Tripura, Tilak in a press conference pointed out, “Unemployment is the biggest problem in Tripura state. 65 percent of India’s population is under 40 years of age. BJP has been in power in the country for the last 10 years. Before assuming power, the Prime Minister promised to provide two crore jobs a year. But did not keep the promise.”
Tilak also addressed the issue of violence in the state, stating, “The incidence of violence in the state of Tripura is higher as compared to the national average.” He credited the Congress government for past developmental work, contrasting it with the current BJP administration. “All the work that has been done for the development of the people has been done during the Congress government. At present, BJP government is in power at center and state. The people are being fooled by the double engine government.”
The Congress leader did not shy away from criticizing the central government and the Prime Minister, raising the issue of Manipur as an example of the administration’s failures.
Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha echoed these sentiments, condemning the administration’s indifference. “The situation is going on in the state. But the administration is indifferent. The people of the state are seeking relief from unjust injustice,” Saha said. He further alleged that Congress workers and supporters are being harassed with false cases.
In light of these grievances, Saha announced the decision to lay siege to the office of the Director General of State Police on September 23. “It will be demanded that the defense administration should maintain neutrality and work,” he asserted.
The press conference saw the presence of prominent Congress leaders, including MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Congress leader Piyush Kanti Biswas, and Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, who stood in solidarity with Saha and Tilak.
