Farmers awareness and input distribution program on scientific rearing & management of piggery, duckery held in Dhalai

Agartala, 12th March 2025:  A Farmers Awareness and Input Distribution Programme on “Scientific Rearing and Management of Piggery, Duckery” was successfully conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dhalai in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Eastern Regional Station, Kolkata, West Bengal. The programme aimed to educate local farmers on modern and scientific methods of pig and duck rearing, enhancing their livelihood opportunities.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Arnab Sen, Head of ICAR-IVRI, ERS, Kolkata, and Dr. Dayamoy Mondol, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IVRI, ERS, Kolkata, as chief guests. Addressing the gathering, they emphasized the importance of adopting scientific practices in pig and duck farming. They shared valuable insights on efficient rearing techniques, disease management, and nutrition to improve productivity and profitability in the sector.

Also present at the programme were Bina Das Biswas, Chairman of Salema Panchayat Samiti, Nani Gopal Kar, Vice-Chairman of Salema Panchayat Samiti and Bimal Debbarma, Chairman of BAC. Those dignitaries highlighted the significance of livestock farming in boosting rural incomes and urged farmers to adopt modern farming techniques for better sustainability. They also discussed strategies to enhance piglet rearing and maximize income through integrated piggery and duckery farming.

During the event, essential inputs such as improved piglet breeds, ducklings, feed, and veterinary kits were distributed to the participating farmers. Experts conducted interactive sessions, addressing farmers’ queries and providing hands-on training on scientific animal husbandry practices.

A total of 90 farmers benefited from the programme, gaining crucial knowledge and resources to improve their livestock farming practices. The initiative received an enthusiastic response from the local farming community, with participants expressing their gratitude for the valuable guidance and support provided.

The collaborative efforts of KVK Dhalai and ICAR-IVRI, ERS, Kolkata, underscore the commitment to empowering farmers through scientific knowledge and resource support, paving the way for sustainable and profitable livestock farming in the region.
