Agartala, 23rd September 2026 : With only four days left before the ADC Village Committee elections, residents of Rabidhan Para under Demdum ADC Village in Fatikroy have threatened to boycott the polls if their long-pending basic civic problems are not addressed.
The villagers alleged that despite repeatedly informing the concerned departments and officials about their problems, no effective steps have been taken to improve the situation. They claimed that around 35 families have been living in the area without adequate basic facilities for years.
According to the residents, the locality has been without electricity for the past six to seven months. Although electricity poles have been installed, power supply has not been restored. The condition of the road is also reportedly deplorable, making movement difficult, particularly for patients, school-going children and people travelling to markets.
The villagers further alleged that there is no school in the locality. Though an Anganwadi centre exists, they claimed that the centre often remains unattended and the Anganwadi worker is not regularly available.
Expressing frustration, residents said political leaders become active in the area during elections and make various promises, but allegedly disappear once the polls are over. They questioned why their longstanding grievances have not been addressed despite repeated appeals to the authorities.
The villagers said they have now decided that unless at least the electricity problem is resolved before the election, they will not cast their votes.
The ADC Village Committee elections are scheduled to be held on September 28. Following the villagers’ announcement, officials from the power department, including engineers, visited the area and held discussions with the residents. The villagers, however, insisted that merely visiting the locality would not be enough and demanded a concrete solution to their problems before the election.
