Agartala, 4th December 2023: The work of a part of the paved bridge over the river Dhalai in Kamalpur area has been cancelled due to faulty construction. The bridge, which is part of the National Highway No. 208 from Kumarghat to Agartala via Kamalpur and Khowai, is a vital infrastructure project for the region.
The issue of poor quality work in the bridge construction came to light when former MLA Anjan Das visited the site and raised his concerns. He also alerted the media and the authorities about the matter. Anadi Sarkar, the Acting Sabhadipati of Dhalai Zilla Parishad, also inspected the bridge and reported the situation to the District Magistrate. The District Magistrate then ordered the ADM and the Engineer to conduct a thorough investigation of the bridge.
The investigation revealed that a part of the bridge was damaged and unfit for use. The District Magistrate informed the ED, who confirmed the findings and declared the work of that part as cancelled. The administration then took action against the contractor and the officials responsible for the faulty construction. The work of the bridge was stopped until further notice.
The cancellation of the bridge work has caused inconvenience and disappointment to the people of the area, who were expecting the bridge to be completed soon. They have demanded that the administration should ensure the quality and safety of the bridge and resume the work as soon as possible. They have also sought accountability and transparency from the authorities and the contractor.
