Agartala, 26th May 2025: A team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), led by M Rajkishore, Regional Executive Director (RED) for the Northeast, visited the long-defunct Kailashahar Airport in Unakoti district on Monday to assess existing infrastructure and examine the feasibility of resuming flight operations.
Rajkishore, who oversees AAI operations across all seven northeastern states, said the visit marked the beginning of a preliminary study to evaluate the airport’s potential for redevelopment.
“My team and I visited Kailashahar Airport to inspect the fundamental infrastructure currently in place, accompanied by officials from the Tripura government. Based on our preliminary observations, we are seriously considering Kailashahar Airport for development. The feasibility of various operational possibilities is being studied as part of future planning,” he stated.
The high-level delegation included M Rajkishore, Regional Director (Northeast), AAI; KC Meena, Director of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala; L. Darlong, Additional District Magistrate of Unakoti; Pradip Sarkar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Kailashahar; and other administrative officials.
