Agartala, 26th May 2025: Residents of the Dharmanagar Rajbari Durgapur area, including women group staged a road blockade yesterday in protest against prolonged power outages. The disruption lasted from 9:30 pm on May 25 until noon the following day, led frustrated locals to take to the streets demanding immediate action.
The blockade initiated at 12 noon resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road. Speaking about the protest, local resident Karnoy Roy stated, “We have been without electricity since yesterday night and despite repeated complaints, the concerned department has shown little urgency in addressing the issue.”
During the protest, district Additional Police Officer Jerry Mia Darlong found himself caught in the blockade. Engaging with the protesters, he immediately contacted the electricity department and informed the Dharmanagar police station. In response, local authorities arrived at the scene, assuring residents that power would be restored by 4 p.m. Following the assurance, the blockade was lifted, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
Residents continue to seek accountability from the electricity department urging authorities to prevent such prolonged disruptions in the future.
