Agartala, 29th February 2024:  In a devastating incident early today, 26 shops in Dhumachara market, located in the Longtorai Valley sub-division, were reduced to ashes in a fierce fire believed to have been caused by a short circuit. The unfortunate event has sparked panic among traders throughout the market.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire was initially noticed in one of the shops, prompting the immediate notification of shop owners. Emergency services, including a fire engine from Manu, rushed to the scene. However, the fire had already spread extensively, making it difficult to bring it under control.

Despite the efforts of the initial fire engine, the situation remained dire until another fire engine from Chailengta arrived to support. It took the combined efforts of the firefighters and the assistance of local residents approximately three hours to finally bring the blaze under control.

Regrettably, by the time the fire was extinguished, a significant portion of the market had been reduced to ashes. The exact extent of the damages is yet to be assessed. Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the short circuit and to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The incident has left the traders in the entire market shaken, and the aftermath of the fire will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the affected businesses. Local authorities are coordinating relief efforts to support those affected and to assist in the recovery process.
