Agartala, October 29: In a tragic turn of events, a devastating fire broke out on the night of Laxmi Puja, gutting four shops and causing an estimated damage of worth Rs 1.50 crore. Swift action by the fire brigade averted a potential catastrophe, preventing further destruction.
The incident occurred opposite to the CNG station on the Khowai-Teliamura road. Among the affected businesses were a sweet shop, a motor automobile parts store, a hotel, and a vegetable shop. Prabir Das’ motor automobile parts shop, Shyamal Ghosh’s hotel, and Rasbihari Debnath’s vegetable shop were completely razed to the ground, along with the sweet-making factory of Pradip Nag’s shop. Initial reports suggested the fire originated from a short circuit.
However, its rapid escalation was fueled by gas cylinders in the confectionery factory and barrels of Mobil oil in the motor parts store. The proximity of the incident to the Khoai fire station played a crucial role in the prompt response, preventing further potential losses. Business owners, now facing significant financial setbacks, were seen on the roadside, grappling with the aftermath of the catastrophe. The collective damage is estimated to be at least Rs1.50 crore, underscoring the magnitude of this tragic event.
