Agartala, 10th May 2026:  A sudden blaze on a 33KV high-voltage power line during heavy rain triggered panic at Ormara Madrasa and Orphanage under Rabindranagar Gram Panchayat in Sonamura, leaving eight girl students injured.

It is reported that the incident took place this afternoon when strong winds accompanied by rain swept through the area. At that time, several students were attending classes inside the orphanage. Witnesses stated that sparks erupted from the overhead transmission line, and fiery particles fell into the premises, causing chaos. The frightened students fell ill amidst the panic.

Teachers immediately alerted nearby residents, who rushed to help. With their assistance, eight injured students were taken to Sonamura Social Health Centre, where they received primary treatment.

The madrasa authorities have appealed to the concerned department to relocate the high-voltage line away from the institution to prevent future hazards. Meanwhile, local residents voiced concerns about the unsafe road connectivity in the area. They warned that in case of a major accident, reaching the site or evacuating victims would be extremely difficult. Villagers have urged authorities to reconstruct the road network to ensure safety and accessibility.

This incident highlights both the urgent need for power line safety and improved rural infrastructure in vulnerable regions.
