Agartala, 11th December 2025: The condition of College Tilla Lake, once a haven for migratory birds, has sharply deteriorated. Polluted waters are causing daily fish deaths, while no migratory birds have been spotted this winter, sparking concern among locals and environmentalists.
The Tripura Human Rights Commission has long warned that concrete structures, artificial bridges, and park development around the lake have disrupted its ecological balance. Residents allege poor maintenance and unchecked inflow of sewage and waste have worsened water quality, leading to foul odor and biodiversity loss.
Environmentalists caution that without urgent clean-up and restoration measures, the historic lake risks turning into a dead water body.
