Agartala, October 29: A government reservoir in the vicinity of Shiv Bari, Central Road in Agartala city has faced environmental challenges as pollution, and the immersion of idols in the pond’s water resulted in the death of many fish fry.

Kishore Kanti Saha, who holds a lease to maintain and cultivate the government reservoir from the Sadar SDM, had embarked on a fishing venture, introducing fish fry into the pond as part of his efforts. To safeguard the water’s quality, residents were kindly requested not to dispose of any waste or idols into the pond.

Regrettably, this request went unheeded, as last Friday, individuals ignored the directive and immersed idols in the pond, alongside several others. The consequences of this act were an alarming level of pollution in the pond’s water, which subsequently led to the death of numerous fish fry due to water contamination.

Expressing his concerns, Kishore Kanti Saha revealed that he has incurred significant financial losses as a result of this pollution, despite the administration’s ban on disposing of items into the pond’s water. He highlighted that a group of self-interested individuals appears to be ignoring these restrictions.

In response to the situation, Kishore Kanti Saha intends to bring this matter to the attention of the sub-divisional administration and submit a formal complaint. The community now awaits the response and potential actions from the sub-divisional administration to address the issue and prevent further harm to the pond’s ecosystem.
