Agartala, 7th June 2026: In a successful joint operation, Khowai Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) rescued five stolen cattle from the Moranadi riverbank area, preventing an alleged attempt to smuggle them into Bangladesh. The recovery has brought relief to the livestock owners.
According to police sources, four cattle were stolen from the Moranadi riverbank area late on Saturday night. During a routine night patrol, Sub-Inspector Debaprasad Chakraborty of Khowai Police Station noticed several individuals suspiciously moving the cattle towards the international border near Dattabari.
Sensing the presence of the police, the suspects abandoned the animals and fled towards the riverbank. Police recovered the four cattle from the spot and brought them to the police station for safekeeping.
Subsequent investigation identified the owner of the recovered cattle as Sanjay Gope, son of Mahadev Gope and a resident of the Moranadi riverbank area. Gope stated that the estimated market value of the four cattle exceeds ₹3 lakh.
Meanwhile, another cattle was recovered from a riverbank area near the border. Police later identified its owner as Chandan Ghosh.
Police officials said that the BSF had been alerted while efforts were underway to apprehend the cattle thieves. With the assistance of the BSF, the fifth cattle was successfully recovered from the riverbank.
An investigation has been launched to identify those involved in the cattle smuggling racket. Police have also intensified surveillance in the border areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
