Agartala, July 05, 2023: The officials of the sub-divisional administration headed by the Director of the Food department Nirmal Adhikari went to Maharaj Ganj market on Wednesday and came to their attention about the smuggling of ration rice.

The official ordered to take action as he could not show any valid document. They raided the vegetable market and other shops in Maharajganj market. Food department Director Nirmal Adhikari said it was a routine operation. This campaign is being conducted not only in Maharajganj market but also in other markets.

However, during the raid, they noticed that the ration rice was being smuggled illegally. It has been confiscated. Necessary action has been ordered. It is the responsibility of the department to provide protection to buyers. Therefore, those who are being sold at higher prices in the market are requested to refrain from doing so. He said that action will be taken later. The director of the food department clarified that the road is currently operational.

As a result there is no problem in the delivery of goods. Therefore, the increased price should be reduced, he said. The director claimed that the price of raw materials cannot be determined in that way. However, he said that there has been a discussion with the Agri Producers. Vendors have been asked to ensure that the prices of certain items are mentioned on the board. This will reduce the problem a lot.

During the operation, 11 sacks of PDS rice were recovered from a cart from Maharajganj market. 3 LPG domestic cylinders were recovered from Tapan Saha’s shop. Due to inconsistencies in the documents and stock, the shop was closed on the orders of the Director. Thereafter, 2 domestic cylinders were seized from Goutam Deb’s shop in MB Tila Bazar.

Director Nirmal Adhikari said notices will be issued against all. Appropriate action will be taken. However, no action has been taken by the administration against the dishonest traders in the market. As a result, the administration’s instructions are nothing but a sham.
