Agartala, November 03: In a bid to address the sudden spike in onion prices by Rs 20 per kilogram, the Food Department has launched a special initiative to control the market rates.
The Maharajganj Bazar Traders Association has also stepped in by establishing an onion sale center at fair prices.
Nirmal Adhikari, Director of the Food Department, expressed concern over the inflation in onion prices, emphasizing the need for immediate action. As part of the initiative, wholesalers will sell onions at Rs 51 per kilogram, while retail prices will be set at Rs 55.
This move comes in response to the escalating onion prices not only in Tripura but also across the nation. The Food Department’s intervention aims to provide relief to consumers and stabilize the onion market.
