Date:

Agartala, 2nd August 2026: Former Lok Sabha MP from Tripura East constituency, Rebati Tripura, has stepped away from active politics and returned to her previous profession of teaching, marking a new chapter in her career.

Rebati Tripura, a highly educated politician, entered electoral politics seven years ago with big aspirations. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she contested her maiden election as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Tripura East parliamentary seat and registered a historic victory. He served as a Member of Parliament for five years and worked on various issues concerning the people of the state.

However, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP did not renominate her for the Tripura East seat. Instead, the party fielded Kriti Singh Debbarma, sister of Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, as its candidate. Despite not receiving a ticket, Rebati Tripura continued to remain associated with the party and actively worked for organisational activities.

During the 2026 elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), she played an important role as one of the BJP’s key campaigners and party workers. He had hoped for a positive outcome for the party, but after the results were declared, she accepted the people’s verdict. Since then, she remained away from the political spotlight.

Recently, Rebati Tripura announced her decision to leave active politics and rejoin her earlier profession. He has returned to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School in Agartala, where she has resumed duties as a postgraduate teacher of Political Science.

His return to the classroom has been widely appreciated by teachers, students and well-wishers. Members of the education fraternity have described his decision as an inspiring example of contributing to society through education beyond the boundaries of politics.

Meanwhile, the BJP state leadership on Sunday reacted to questions regarding Rebati Tripura’s position and profile within the party. Asked about her organisational role in the BJP after she resumed teaching, party spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said, “I cannot provide her total profile while sitting here. It is not possible.”

Rebati Tripura’s return to teaching has sparked discussions in political and educational circles, with many viewing it as a transition from public office to social contribution through education.
