Woman Killed, Minor Girl Injured in Road Accident in South Tripura

Agartala, 2nd August 2026: A woman was killed and a minor girl sustained injuries in a tragic road accident near Kalachhara Railway Station in South Tripura district on Sunday morning, triggering tension in the locality.

According to local sources, Sabita Das (around 45), a resident of Kalachhara, was preparing to leave for her routine morning walk when she was accompanied by her neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter, Sangita Roy.

An alleged speeding WagonR car travelling from Agartala towards Sabroom reportedly lost control and hit both pedestrians. The vehicle then crashed into a roadside restaurant before ploughing into the house of one Amulya Das.

Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, taking them to the Kalachhara Primary Health Centre. As Sabita Das’s condition deteriorated, she was referred to Santirbazar District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The injured girl, Sangita Roy, is currently undergoing treatment.

Locals alleged that the vehicle was being driven by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Santirbazar Police Station. The incident sparked tension in the area.

Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and verify the allegations regarding the driver. Officials said the complete picture will emerge after the investigation report is submitted.
