Agartala, 2nd August 2026: Police have recovered a stolen CNG auto-rickshaw from a rubber plantation near Bishramganj after it was reportedly stolen from in front of Kherengbar Hospital in Khumlung.
According to police sources, the vehicle bearing registration number TR-01M-3805 was recovered late Saturday night from the roadside area near a new petrol pump along the National Highway in Bishramganj.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the thieves had taken the auto-rickshaw to the rubber plantation and were attempting to remove its battery when police noticed suspicious activity. As the police team approached the spot, the miscreants managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness. Despite a chase, no one could be arrested.
The recovered vehicle was later brought to Bishramganj Police Station.
The owner of the auto-rickshaw, Shakti Debbarma, a resident of Birendranagar under Jirania subdivision, reached the police station on Sunday morning after receiving information and identified the vehicle.
Speaking about the incident, Shakti said that his nephew’s wife had been admitted to Kherengbar Hospital for delivery. On Saturday, he had gone to the hospital to deliver food by his CNG auto. He parked the vehicle outside the hospital and went inside for a few minutes, but upon returning, found it missing. He subsequently informed the police.
Bishramganj Police have started an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the theft.
