Former Tripura MP Rebati Tripura Rejects Exit Rumours, Says He Remains Active in BJP While Resuming Teaching

Date:

Agartala, 3rd August 2026: Former Tripura Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura has dismissed reports claiming that he has stepped away from politics after rejoining the teaching profession, asserting that he continues to be an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and serves on the party’s core committee.

Responding to media reports, Rebati Tripura expressed surprise over claims that he had quit politics, saying such reports were published without verifying the facts with him.

“I was a teacher long before I entered politics, and everyone is aware of that. I joined the teaching profession in 2001 and became an active BJP worker in 2014. In 2018, I was elected to the Lok Sabha and remained on leave from my teaching duties throughout my tenure as a Member of Parliament,” he said.

Explaining his decision to return to the classroom, Rebati said there are currently no major elections or large-scale political programmes that require his full-time involvement.

“The TTAADC elections have concluded, and there are no significant political engagements at present. After consulting the Headmaster, I resumed my responsibilities as a Political Science teacher at Mahatma Gandhi Higher Secondary School, a government-aided institution,” he said.

He firmly rejected speculation that his return to teaching signalled the end of his political career.

“I have not quit politics. I remain an active member of the BJP and continue to perform my responsibilities as a member of the party’s core committee. Returning to my profession as a teacher should not be misconstrued as withdrawing from public life,” Rebati Tripura said.

He further clarified that employees of government-aided schools are permitted to participate in political activities under the existing rules. According to him, there is no conflict in simultaneously discharging responsibilities in the teaching profession and public life.
