Agartala, December 30: A violent clash broke out between two rival public representatives and their families in Kumarghat, leaving four people injured, including a councilor of Kumarghat Municipal Council. The incident sparked panic among the locals and led to a police complaint by the councilor against seven people.

According to sources, the clash was triggered by a previous enmity between Tuton Das, the councilor of Ward No. 7 of Kumarghat Municipal Council, and Ripon Das, a resident of the same ward who was accused of involvement in a drug case three months ago. An anti-narcotics case was registered in the police station against eight people, including Ripon Das, who was later arrested and sent to jail in Kailashahar.

Tuton Das went to Archana Das’s house in Ward No. 7 to promote Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, a campaign launched by the ruling party. On his way back, he passed by Ripon Das’s house, where he was allegedly attacked by Ripon Das and his family members. Tuton Das suffered injuries on his legs and head, while his daughter-in-law was also hurt in the scuffle.

Tuton Das managed to escape from the spot and filed a complaint at Kumarghat police station against seven people, namely Ripon Das, Seema Deb Das, Lipton Das, Rupdip Das, Debasish Das, Rakhi Acharjee, and Dibakar Das. He accused them of assaulting him and his family without any provocation and threatening to kill him.

However, Ripon Das’s wife Seema Das claimed that Tuton Das was the one who started the trouble. She alleged that Tuton Das had harassed her three months ago when Ripon Das was in jail, and had made an indecent proposal to her. She also said that Tuton Das had attacked her house and injured her son Rupdeep Das and her brother-in-law Ajit Das.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. No arrests have been made so far. The situation in the area is tense but under control, the police said.
