Agartala, 30th May 2025: In a tragic incident, a four-year-old female wild elephant was found dead at Dukhipara, located in the Teliamura sub-division of Khowai district, on Friday morning.
The carcass was discovered around 11 AM by elephant volunteers who were on duty despite heavy rainfall. Pranajit Saha, Range Officer of the Mungiakami Range, confirmed the discovery and said that forest officials and veterinary staff promptly reached the site as per protocol.A post-mortem examination was conducted on-site, and preliminary findings from the veterinary team indicate that the young elephant died due to a lightning strike during the thunderstorm that passed through the area earlier in the day.
“Authorities have completed all necessary formalities, and the carcass will be disposed of in accordance with forest department guidelines,” Mr. Saha added.
