Agartala, 5th April 2025:   The much-celebrated Udaipur Khilpara Shitala Mela, known for its vibrant traditions and community spirit, faced an unwelcome disruption as gambling activities cast a shadow over the festivities. A group of gamblers, allegedly operating under the name “Jandi Munda,” had set up an illegal gambling den just 50 meters from the fairground. Their operation, targeting the local youth, was swiftly disrupted by police intervention, though not without raising tensions in the area.

Acting on information provided by vigilant locals, officers from the Udaipur Radhakishorpur Police Station conducted a raid at the site. Although the gamblers managed to flee the scene, law enforcement confiscated gambling paraphernalia from the location. The swift action demonstrated the police’s commitment to upholding the sanctity of the traditional fair. However, the situation has taken a challenging turn, as the gamblers reportedly issued a bold warning, vowing to resume their activities despite the police crackdown.

The incident has left residents deeply concerned. “This is a holy festival meant to bring people together, not a platform for criminal activities,” said a local villager, who wished to remain anonymous. “We hope the police take strict measures to ensure such events do not recur. The youth of our village must be protected from such influences.”

Community members emphasized the need for vigilance and strict action to preserve the cultural and moral fabric of the festival. As tensions simmer in the area, all eyes are on the police administration to see how they respond to the challenge posed by the gamblers. The episode has highlighted the importance of community-police cooperation in safeguarding traditional events from such disruptions.

The Khilpara Shitala Mela, despite this setback, continues to shine as a beacon of Udaipur’s rich cultural heritage. However, the shadow cast by these illicit activities serves as a stark reminder of the need for constant vigilance during public gatherings.
