Agartala, 5th April 2025:  After a long wait of ten years, construction has finally begun on a much-needed drainage system from Jagannathbari Lake adjacent to Saha Para Samhati Sangha to the Durgabari Crematorium Ghat Cherra on the Agartala-Bamutia road.

The onset of monsoon each year had made this road a nightmare for residents. Incessant rains would leave the stretch submerged for days, bringing traffic to a halt and trapping nearly 35 families of Bhadrapalli in waterlogged conditions.

Speaking to reporters during an inspection this morning, former MLA of Bamutia assembly constituency Krishnadhan Das said, “This waterlogging issue has plagued us for years due to the unscientific construction of culverts during the Left regime. The present government is committed to resolving this persistent problem.”

Das credited the initiation of the drain project to the efforts of the late Balai Goswami, former Sabhadipati of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad. “It is because of Goswami’s vision and the government’s active efforts that this project is now progressing at lightning speed,” he added. The construction is being undertaken by the Public Works Department at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.

Expressing optimism, Das said, “Once completed, this drain will end the long-standing suffering of the people. Our government is committed not just to building roads or drains, but to the holistic development of the state. That progress is visible right here in Bamutia.”

Present during the inspection were Bamutia Panchayat Samiti Chairman Dipak Kumar Sinha, Bamutia Block BDO Amitabh Bhattacharya, Uttar Gandhigram Panchayat Upa-Pradhan Krishna Biswas, Booth No. 44 President Uttam Chakraborty along with other panchayat members and local residents.

Residents expressed their satisfaction and relief that their decade-old demand is finally being met. Krishnadhan Das also assured the public that plans are in place to widen the Agartala-Bamutia road in the near future, and called upon the people for their cooperation in furthering the area’s development.
