Gas cylinders, inverter stolen from Anganwadi at Kachucherra

Date:

Agartala, 14th September 2026 : A daring theft at the Salema Colony No. 2 Anganwadi Centre in Kabiraj Tila area under Kachucherra Police Station has sparked concern among local residents. Thieves allegedly broke open the centre’s lock under the cover of darkness and fled with two gas cylinders, an inverter and wiring from the solar power system.

The theft came to light on Monday morning when the Anganwadi worker arrived at the centre and found the door lock broken. Inside, several items were found scattered, prompting her to alert nearby residents, Kachucherra police and the local Gram Panchayat head.

Police later inspected the premises and examined the damaged lock. The exact time and manner of the break-in, as well as the identities of those involved, have not yet been established. An investigation is underway.

The incident has raised fresh security concerns among residents. According to the Anganwadi worker, the centre’s lock had appeared tampered with and bent on several occasions even before the theft. Locals also alleged that groups of people often gather near the centre after dusk, while the area remains largely deserted at night. However, no connection between such gatherings and the theft has been established.

The incident has also highlighted other problems at the centre. The worker reportedly claimed that the centre has been without a helper for a long period, leaving her to manage childcare, education and other responsibilities alone. Drinking water is another concern, with children reportedly bringing water from home despite a water connection at the centre.

Residents have demanded recovery of the stolen items, stronger security arrangements and increased surveillance around the centre after dark. Meanwhile, Kachucherra police are continuing their investigation.
