GB Hospital completes 128 AV Fistula surgeries through six specialised camps

Date:

Agartala, 6th November 2026 : In a major boost to specialised kidney care in Tripura, Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital have successfully completed their sixth Arteriovenous (AV) Fistula Surgery Camp in collaboration with a team of specialist doctors from Shija Hospitals. A total of 28 patients underwent surgery during the latest camp, taking the cumulative number of successful procedures to 128.

The camp, conducted from November 4 to 6, witnessed the screening of 46 patients from November 3 onwards. The initiative was undertaken through the special efforts of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, with the objective of strengthening treatment facilities for patients suffering from kidney failure and requiring regular haemodialysis.

An AV fistula provides essential vascular access for patients undergoing long-term dialysis. Its availability plays a crucial role in ensuring effective treatment and improving the quality of life of individuals with renal failure. Considering the rising number of kidney patients, the recurring camps are aimed at making such specialised surgical facilities more accessible within the state.

The medical team from GB Hospital included Dr. Nilotpal Dey of the Plastic Surgery Department, Dr. Manas Gope, Head of the Department of Nephrology, and anaesthesiologist Dr. Sathi Dhar. The Shija Hospitals team comprised Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons Dr. Nabakishore Haobijam and Dr. Indranil Dutta, along with DNB trainee Dr. Kartika Shobha Pillai. Senior Nursing Officers Tapati Chakraborty and Sanjib Das supervised the surgical activities.

Hospital authorities appreciated the collective efforts of the medical professionals, nursing personnel, technicians and other healthcare workers involved in the programme.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce patients’ dependence on hospitals outside Tripura for AV fistula procedures, helping them avoid additional travel expenses, delays and associated hardships. The continued partnership between AGMC and Shija Hospitals is also expected to enhance the state’s capacity to deliver advanced and affordable healthcare services.
