Sushanta Chowdhury leads BJP nomination rally at Ranirbazar, candidates file papers for 13 wards

Date:

Agartala, 6th November 2026 : The BJP on Friday launched its municipal election campaign in Ranirbazar with a large procession as candidates nominated by the party submitted their nomination papers for all 13 wards of the municipal council.

The candidates marched towards the Returning Officer’s office accompanied by party leaders, supporters and workers. The procession, marked by enthusiastic participation and a festive atmosphere, was led by Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who represents the Majlishpur Assembly constituency, which includes Ranirbazar Municipal Council.

Addressing party supporters, Chowdhury said the public response during the programme reflected the BJP’s organisational strength and people’s confidence in the party. He expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects across all 21 urban local bodies, including Agartala Municipal Corporation and the remaining municipal councils and nagar panchayats.

Taking aim at the opposition, the minister accused the Congress and CPI(M) of joining hands with the sole objective of defeating the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that opposition parties were attempting to create a negative perception about the state government to regain political power.

Chowdhury said the BJP had received public support in successive elections over the past 12 years under Modi’s leadership, pointing to the country’s economic progress, foreign policy initiatives and internal security measures as major areas of development.

Referring to Tripura’s political situation, he said voters had twice given the BJP an opportunity to govern the state. He maintained that the opposition’s attempts to challenge the government would be decided by the people through the democratic process.

“The people of Tripura will not accept attempts to capture power through the back door. We are confident that a BJP-led government will return to power in the next Assembly elections,” he said.

The minister also described the ongoing municipal elections as a semi-final before the next Assembly polls. He said the BJP was approaching the urban elections with full preparation and would use the experience and outcome of the polls to strengthen its preparations for the Assembly elections.

The filing of nominations for all 13 wards marked an important step in the BJP’s campaign in Ranirbazar, where the party is seeking to retain its political support base.
