Agartala, 21st January 2024 : In a significant move towards urban development, Mayor Dipak Majumdar, accompanied by Corporator Pradip Chanda and other officials, visited the GB market area on Sunday to announce the commencement of the market’s modernization project. This initiative is part of the broader plan to transform Agartala into a modern hub, drawing inspiration from the successful transformation of the Battala market.
Mayor Majumdar revealed that discussions with the market’s trade association have already taken place, with positive cooperation from business associations. The GB market, one of the ten identified markets in Agartala, is set to undergo a comprehensive modernization process to enhance its functionality and aesthetics.
A crucial aspect of this modernization effort is the removal of illegal shopkeepers along the road of GB market, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the area. With the groundwork complete, the municipal corporation is gearing up to initiate the modernization project, with a targeted start date in March, provided everything proceeds as planned.
The mayor expressed optimism about the timeline, stating that efforts would be made to complete the transformation within a year. Recognizing the importance of the GB market, especially as it houses the state’s main referral hospital, Mayor Majumdar emphasized that the modernization project is designed with the needs of all sections of the community in mind.
“We are committed to creating a modern market space that caters to the diverse needs of the people, considering the heavy footfall due to the presence of the main referral hospital in the vicinity. This initiative is a step towards enhancing the overall experience for both vendors and visitors,” Mayor Majumdar remarked during the visit.
