Agartala, 24th August 2026 :A giant Burmese python, measuring nearly nine feet in length and weighing around 15 kilograms, was rescued from inside a house in the Baghaichar area of Kathalia in Sepahijala district late Sunday night, triggering curiosity among local residents.
According to sources, the snake was spotted at around 2:58 a.m. at the residence of Abul Khayer in Baghaichar. On receiving the information, snake rescuers Asim Majumder and Lokai Dey, associated with Animal Aid Alliance Welfare Society, reached the spot and launched an operation to rescue the reptile.
After a prolonged effort, the rescuers safely captured the python and arranged to relocate it to a secure natural habitat. They said they have been involved in rescuing snakes from residential areas and releasing them safely into forests and other suitable habitats for several years. They claimed to have rescued and released around 305 snakes so far as part of their efforts to protect wildlife and maintain ecological balance.
The operation was assisted by Jatrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Prarthanath Bhowmik and Sub-Inspector Prosenjit Debnath. The police officials reportedly provided their vehicle to transport the rescuers and the rescued python to the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary area, where the snake was subsequently released into a safe habitat.
The appearance of such a large Burmese python in a densely populated area has sparked considerable curiosity among residents. After news of the rescue spread, a large crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the reptile when it was brought to the local market in the morning.
Local residents appreciated the efforts of the two rescuers and the police personnel for safely rescuing the giant python and returning it to its natural environment.
