Agartala, 24th August 2026 : The Tripura State Election Commission has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Village Committee elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with officials reviewing the arrangements and responsibilities ahead of the poll.
State Election Commissioner Pradip Kumar Chakraborty said the Commission recently organised a workshop for Returning Officers, including Block Development Officers (BDOs), to familiarise them with the procedures and responsibilities involved in conducting the elections.
During the workshop, officials discussed several key stages of the poll process, including scrutiny of nomination papers, preparation of the final list of candidates, adherence to election rules, maintenance of law and order and arrangements for vote counting.
Chakraborty said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that all Returning Officers are adequately prepared and that the election process is carried out without procedural complications.
He also said the State Election Commission and the state government have submitted a joint affidavit before the Supreme Court in accordance with the broad framework of the proposed election schedule. The Village Committee elections are expected to be held by September.
Meanwhile, security arrangements are being given particular attention. The Commission has already held discussions with police officials and is planning another meeting to review the security situation and identify areas that may require additional measures.
Both state police and central security forces are expected to be deployed during the elections to maintain peace and prevent any disruption.
The Commission is now working on completing the remaining administrative and security preparations as the TTAADC Village Committee elections draw closer.
