Agartala, 13th June 2026: The family of 78-year-old Sahid Miah, who was killed in broad daylight in an alleged political violence incident at Charilam Market on November 30, 2022, has appealed to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for a government job and social welfare benefits.
Standing in the courtyard of their home at Uttar Mura, Charilam, on Saturday morning, Sahid Miah’s wife Piroza Khatun and her three sons, who work as daily wage labourers, raised their demand. The family claimed that despite belonging to the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category, they have not received any government assistance so far.
The family said they came forward with their demand after learning about the government’s decision to provide employment to a family member of those who lost their lives in political killings. According to them, Sahid Miah’s death in political violence makes their family eligible for such support.
Piroza Khatun alleged that the family has not received any social welfare allowances, and even the allowance that Sahid Miah used to receive has not been transferred to her name after his death.
The family has urged Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to consider their appeal and provide employment support along with welfare benefits.
