Agartala, 18th October 2025: Dhanteras celebrations sparked a shopping frenzy across the capital city of Tripura today, with jewellery stores witnessing overwhelming footfall as residents flocked to purchase gold ornaments. The auspicious occasion, which marks the beginning of Diwali festivities, is traditionally associated with buying precious metals — a practice believed to bring prosperity and good health.
According to Hindu belief, Dhanteras honors Lord Dhanvantari, the deity of health and wealth. Purchasing gold or other metals on this day is considered a symbol of good fortune and a way to invite blessings for the year ahead. Gold, in particular, is revered as a representation of Goddess Lakshmi, and buying it is thought to ensure her lasting presence in the household.
Several jewellery outlets in Agartala reported brisk business, with customers lining up to take advantage of festive discounts on making charges. Shoppers were seen exiting stores with gleaming ornaments and joyful expressions, reflecting the cultural significance and emotional resonance of the day.
Retailers anticipate continued high demand throughout the Diwali season, as the tradition of Dhanteras shopping remains deeply rooted in local customs and beliefs.
