Agartala, 7th August 2024:  In a scathing attack on the state government, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty accused the ruling “double engine” government of failing to uphold good governance and instead surrendering to illegal activities.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan here on Wednesday, Chakraborty alleged that the government has turned a blind eye to the activities of land mafias, nigo mafias, and drug dealers.

Chakraborty highlighted a recent incident in Bishalgarh, where a violent clash erupted last Saturday between a group led by the chief executive and another group associated with a public representative over the possession of money. He claimed that attempts were made to cover up the incident by summoning the leader of the group to Agartala.

“What is alarming is that leaders are now being attacked, bloodied, and abused by these mafias,” Chakraborty stated. “This scandalous chapter in the state’s history is being written under the current government, and they will not be spared.”

He further mentioned that Bishalgarh MLA Sushanta Deb has expressed his fears on social media, stating that he feels insecure and fears for his life. “The question arises, where is this double engine government taking the state?” Chakraborty questioned, criticizing the government’s handling of the situation.

The press conference was also attended by Pradesh Congress vice-president Shantiranjan Debnath and other party members, who echoed Chakraborty’s concerns and called for immediate action to address the rising influence of illegal activities in the state.
