Agartala, September 25, 2022: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday said that the state government is looking to create a medical hub around the Agartala Government Medical College.
While addressing at the 18th Foundation Day of Agartala Government Medical College at KLS auditorium in premises of AGMC and GBP Hospital here on Sunday evening, Dr Saha said that AGMC is the main medical service center of the state and this college cannot be underestimated in any part. The state government has taken various initiatives for the development of this college and many important medical services are being provided in this college hospital. But it is not properly propagated to the people.
Chief Minister Dr Saha said that Agartala Government Medical College can be developed as an art of excellence so that students, teachers and all concerned should take responsibility. He said that it is not enough to be a bookworm. Doctors must establish themselves as all-rounders. He said doctors are remembered with respect in the society. They are the ones who issue birth and death certificates for people.
Health Secretary Dr Debasish Basu, Director of Medical Education Dr Chinmay Biswas, Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital Dr Sanjib Debbarma, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College Dr Manjushree Roy among others also spoke on the occasion. Dr Tapan Majumder, Chairman of the organizing committee gave a welcome speech. Merit awards were given to meritorious medical students of various departments at the foundation day ceremony.
AGMC students performed a cultural program. It should be noted that Agartala Government Medical College was established on 1st August 2005.
