Agartala, 25th August 2026 : Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state government has provided direct employment to 22,365 people so far, including appointments under the die-in-harness scheme. He added that around 26,228 people received employment through contractual and outsourcing arrangements between 2018-19 and August 24, 2024.
Dr. Saha made the statement while speaking at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, during a programme for distribution of appointment offers to General Duty Medical Officers (Grade IV) and a state-level training programme for Medical Officers (Dental), Dental Surgeons and Community Health Officers.
Describing the occasion as a memorable day, the Chief Minister said appointment offers were being handed over to 42 GDMOs. He said the government had earlier sought to fill 224 vacancies through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), which recommended 216 candidates. Offers were subsequently issued to 214 candidates, as two had already been appointed as Specialist Medical Officers.
Of these, 160 accepted the offers and 152 have already joined government service. Dr. Saha said he had directed officials to expedite the process, resulting in the TPSC recommending another 42 candidates on June 2, 2026.
Stressing transparency, he said the appointments were made purely on merit and that there was no scope for securing government jobs through political influence or personal connections.
Addressing the doctors, Dr. Saha said their appointment was not merely an employment opportunity but a major responsibility. He urged them to serve patients with patience, compassion and empathy, stressing that doctors deal with human lives.
The Chief Minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, fill vacancies and expand medical education, saying the government was working to establish Tripura as a medical hub.
He further urged the newly appointed doctors to continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills, as medical science and treatment methods are rapidly evolving.
A total of 42 appointment offers were distributed during the programme. The event was attended by Saju Vaheed A, IAS, Additional Secretary and Mission Director, National Health Mission, Government of Tripura; Dr. Debasri Debbarma, Director of Health Services; Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine; Prof. (Dr.) Abhijit Datta, In-charge Director of Medical Education; and Dr. Amit Lal Goswami, President of the IDA Tripura State Branch.
