Anganwadi Centres Must Not Be Closed for Agitations : Minister Tinku Roy

Date:

Agartala, 25th August 2026 :  The government will not tolerate Anganwadi workers joining agitations by keeping Anganwadi centres closed during working hours, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a review meeting of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department at the Civil Secretariat, Roy said that the progress of various development and welfare programmes implemented by the department was reviewed in detail. The meeting also discussed the various demands and grievances raised by Anganwadi workers.

The minister acknowledged that Anganwadi workers may have several genuine issues and said that their demands have been submitted to the government in writing on several occasions. The government, he added, is considering these issues seriously.

However, Roy made it clear that neglecting official duties and participating in agitations during working hours would not be accepted. He said that if allegations of Anganwadi centres being kept closed for protests are found to be true, necessary action will be taken against the concerned workers.

“Anganwadi centres provide essential services to children and mothers. Any disruption to these services will be viewed seriously,” the minister said.

He further informed that concerned officials have been instructed to take appropriate action whenever complaints are received about Anganwadi centres being closed during working hours due to protests.

At the same time, Roy said the government remains committed to addressing the genuine problems and demands of Anganwadi workers through dialogue, while ensuring that essential public services continue without disruption.
