Agartala, 25th August 2026 : Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said the differences between the ruling BJP and its alliance partner Tipra Motha Party (TMP) over the upcoming Village Committee elections would be resolved through discussions, maintaining that such disagreements are normal among political allies.
Addressing reporters, Saha acknowledged that the two alliance partners may have differing positions on certain issues but expressed confidence that a common decision would eventually be reached.
“Even at home, you see, there are always some problems. So, we are partners in politics. Sometimes they want something, we don’t want something. Ultimately, we come to the conclusion. A unanimous decision will be there. We will inform later,” Saha said.
The Chief Minister was responding to questions over the delay in finalising the BJP-TMP arrangement for the Village Committee elections. Despite the two parties being alliance partners and having jointly signed a tripartite agreement, differences have reportedly emerged over the way the electoral understanding should be implemented.
Saha, however, indicated that the differences were not serious enough to threaten the alliance. “No, no. It will be done,” he said, adding that the demands or preferred methods of one side might not always be accepted in their original form, but a solution would ultimately be found.
With the elections approaching, Saha said there was little time left and hinted that an announcement on the matter would be made shortly.
The Chief Minister also responded sharply to comments made by CPI(M) national general secretary M.A. Baby during his recent visit to Tripura. Baby had claimed that the CPI(M) was regaining political ground by highlighting what he described as inadequate development under the BJP-led alliance government.
Rejecting the criticism, Saha said those making such statements were relying on familiar political arguments rather than assessing the situation on the ground.
“They have memorized these talking points, haven’t they?” Saha said.
He claimed that the scale of development in Tripura could be seen by anyone travelling through the state, particularly visitors arriving by air. According to Saha, even critics privately acknowledge the changes taking place in the state after witnessing them firsthand.
“There is no question about the development,” he asserted.
Taking a political swipe at the CPI(M), Saha said the party’s standing among the people had declined sharply. He suggested that the upcoming Assembly elections would provide a clear indication of the party’s actual political strength.
The Chief Minister’s comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the Village Committee elections, with the BJP-TMP understanding likely to remain a key factor in the electoral contest in the tribal areas.
