Agartala, 25th August 2026 : Bishalgarh Sub-divisional Administration on Tuesday sealed the office of Ashirbad Micro Finance Limited at Ambagan in Bishalgarh following a raid over allegations that the company was operating without valid documentation and in violation of mandatory regulations.
The action was carried out by DCM Prasenjit Das of the Bishalgarh Sub-divisional Magistrate’s office, along with other officials, as part of a crackdown on micro-finance companies allegedly operating at different locations across the subdivision without proper authorisation.
According to sources, several such entities have reportedly been targeting economically vulnerable families, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, by offering loans at high interest rates. The inability of borrowers to repay such loans has allegedly pushed some families into severe financial distress.
Acting on complaints regarding alleged exploitation of borrowers, the administrative team conducted an inspection of the Ashirbad Micro Finance office on Tuesday afternoon. Officials reportedly sought documents relating to the company’s establishment and operations. However, the representatives present at the premises allegedly failed to produce valid documents required to establish the legality of their operations.
Sources said that several employees reportedly left the premises when the administrative officials arrived. Following the inspection, the authorities sealed the office, citing alleged violations of applicable rules and regulations.
The latest action has raised concerns over the functioning of unregulated micro-finance entities in the subdivision. The administration is expected to continue inspections of similar establishments and take action against those found operating without the necessary permissions or documentation.
Officials have also urged borrowers facing harassment or exploitation by such lending agencies to approach the administration with complaints and supporting documents.
