Agartala, 25th August 2026 : Tripura has achieved a significant national milestone by being named the Overall Best-Performing State in the Small State Category under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme.
The recognition was announced at the PMFME Conclave 2026, held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on August 24–25. Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan presented the award to Tripura.
The achievement highlights the state’s growing focus on promoting micro food-processing enterprises, supporting local entrepreneurs and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. The PMFME initiative provides assistance to micro food-processing units, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other grassroots entrepreneurs through financial support, capacity building, formalisation and improved access to markets.
According to a post shared by the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, the national conclave brought together policymakers, entrepreneurs, institutions and other stakeholders working to advance entrepreneurship, livelihood generation and inclusive economic development.
The award is being seen as a recognition of the collective efforts of Tripura’s grassroots entrepreneurs, SHGs and institutions working to strengthen the state’s local food-processing sector. It also provides greater visibility to the state’s emerging micro-enterprise ecosystem at the national level.
The recognition is expected to further encourage initiatives aimed at strengthening local businesses, enhancing the income opportunities of communities and promoting value addition to locally produced food products.
With Tripura securing the top position among small states, the achievement marks an important boost to the state’s efforts towards entrepreneurship-led growth, livelihood promotion and sustainable economic development.
